C64 Tapuino Reloaded

Tapuino Reloaded for Commodore 64, Commodore 16 and VIC-20

The TAPUINO is a hardware interface by Alejandro Conde López based on the design and firmware by Peter Edwards aka Sweetlilmre that fully emulates the Commodore 64 datassette and allows, among other things, the playback of .tap files on Commodore 64, Commodore 16 and VIC-20 systems.

The .tap file is a computer file containing information recorded from an actual Commodore 64 cassette tape (games, programs, demos…).

As a real datassette emulator, TAPUINO can only play .tap files.

.d64 (disk dumps), .t64 (compressed tapes), .prg (programs) or .crt (cartridges) files are not compatible with the TAPUINO device. Note that the TAPUINO will not speedup loading a .tap on a real Commodore.

The loading cycles and times required to load a .tap will be identical to those required on a real cassette loaded from the original datassette.

So why buy it?

• External port to connect your Datasette (convert tape to .tap, and .tap to tape) – backup your tapes
• Buzzer to ear the .tap pulses – Good for checking things are OK
• Micro USB Output to power-up external devices like SD2IEC – fewer cables
• On/Off switch to enable or disable the buzzer sound – That screech can get annoying
• Supports saving of files – I ldo like tapecarts but can save my code when I get nostalgic, the speed adds to the nostalgia.
