The original rechargeable barrel batteries on Amiga hardware (typically found in the A501 RAM expansion trapdoor module or on Amiga 500 Plus motherboards) leak corrosive alkaline over time, destroying circuit traces.
Removing the old battery immediately is critical to save your computer.
We will remove and triage the condition and given any corrosion or damaged traces if possible and replace the battery with you selected option. If any corrosion cant be repaired we will contact you for your input and the machine will be returned and a refund issued for the repair equivalent to the cost of the battery option selected.
The price includes:
- Motherboard check
- Removal of old components and motherboard clean
- Replace battery with the selected option
- Retest (Video, Audio, Floppy Boot, etc.)
We offer 2 options:
- Ni-MH Rechargeable Replacement: An identical spec 3.6V 80mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery back onto the board if you want standard factory functionality.
- CR2032 Coin Cell Modification: Many users prefer swapping to a CR2032 non-rechargeable lithium coin cell holder we have designed. Note you will have to access the battery to change it when it has run out. This is avoided with the Ni-MH option.
- Crucial Safety Note: Our non-rechargeable lithium cell like a CR2032, has an 1N4148 diode in the circuit to block the Amiga’s charging current; otherwise, non-rechargeable cells can overheat, leak, or catch fire.
